Since 1973 East Anglian Sea School has been run by members of the Smith family. From January 1st 2018 the third generation of the family, Amelia Smith, has taken over the helm of this famous Royal Yachting Association Training Establishment.
The School was started 1973 by Bill Smith and his wife teaching on a Westerly yacht on the coastal waters of East Anglia out of Burnham Yacht Harbour. In 1996 Bill’s son Peter Smith took over as Principal and the school relocated to Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the River Orwell in 1998. The Sea School has continued to expand with a fleet of yachts, motorboats and powerboats, teaching all aspects of the RYA schemes. In 2004 Peter’s wife Alison joined the business and later added the RYA Dinghy Sailing schemes using a team of enthusiastic young dinghy instructors, soon joined by their eldest daughter, teaching in a fleet of Laser Picos and Wayfarer dinghies based around the school floating pontoon on the River Orwell.
Amelia’s is joined by Edd Harvey leading the boat maintenance and on water activities while Amelia is the smiling face managing the shore-side office at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington.
Putting you at the helm for 45 years, 1973 – 2018!
