Here is a bit about our Skipper on board for Leg 4/5/6 Round Britain 2020
I grew up in Suffolk and learned to sail as a youngster on the rivers in dinghies with my father and our dog. I have sailed whenever I could all my life and now have my own 34 ft yacht that my wife and I take cruising to Holland, the south coast and over to France. I have been an instructor with EASS for 9 years and have already skippered many of the previous week-long legs round Britain.
In 2020, I am looking forward to skippering weeks 4 to 6 of the Round Britain trip, from Whitehaven to Cork, then to Plymouth and back to Suffolk. We will be enjoying summer weather and seeing many famous maritime destinations.
Over the first week, we will leave Whitehaven (on the coast by the Lake District) heading to the Isle of Man then across to Ireland, sailing down the beautiful east coast and ending up at the Royal Cork Yacht Club.
Then we will head over to the Isles of Scilly across the Celtic Sea, which will be an overnight passage, so will wait for good weather! The next ports of call will be along the heritage coastline of Cornwall and Devon, such as Newlyn, Falmouth, Fowey and Plymouth.
From Plymouth, the final week will see us visiting more historic places such as Dartmouth, Weymouth, past the Needles as we enter the Solent and then on eastwards to Eastbourne, the Dover Straights and, crossing the Thames Estuary, return to Suffolk.
I was a soil scientist working in agriculture so it may seem odd that I love the sea and sailing. But my work has taken me to many places around the world and I love travelling and a bit of adventure. Now that I am retired, I have plenty of time to enjoy my passion for sailing.
